MBZ 33 x Brokenships

He asked me to choose one of the chair models when he showed me around in his enterprise on a lazy Sunday. We were deeply in love, strolling around the empty building, smoking  cigarettes in the terrace and it felt like everything had fallen into the right place finally.It was a perfect dream. He wrote love poems for me and promised me the world. Then one day, right after a ridiculous intimate and perfect holiday he sent me a Whatsapp telling me that he couldn't imagine a future with me, has met another woman and that I  had to let him go. My world shattered into pieces, only the little chair stayed firm.  He moved on and I couldn't go back to the woman anymore that I had been before I met him. I collected  the broken  parts and designed a new person, stable and firm like the little chair. Some pieces I couldn't find anymore, maybe he took them with him. But it doesn't matter, I don't need these anymore.

<blockquote>We are delighted to present <em>Lovers, The Great Wall Walk</em>, the renowned video installation by Marina Abramović and Ulay, as the third work in our Goodbye / Auf Wiedersehen exhibition series. The presentation of <em>The Lovers</em> in Zagreb also marks the beginning of the major retrospective ART VITAL – 12 Years of the Ulay / Marina Abramović Duo, opening on the 30th of November in Ljubljana, Slovenia.<br><br> As Lena Pislak, director of the Ulay Foundation, says: <em>“To speak about </em><strong><em>The Lovers</em></strong><em> inside the Museum of Broken Relationships feels almost like perfect symmetry: a space built from fragments and endings, and a work that begins in separation but transforms into legend.”<br></em><br>The installation is on view until December 14th, nestled in the in-between space of the museum.</blockquote><div><br></div><div><em>Photo © Ulay / Marina Abramović. Lovers, The Great Wall Walk

It turns out I never understood you. Maybe I don't really love people; maybe I was just afraid of being alone and wanted someone to keep me company. At first, it was so sweet and happy, but when problems arose, it was so heartbreaking and disappointing. I couldn't communicate when I could. I can talk freely with other people, but I can't with you. I'm nervous, I'm worried, I lack confidence, I'm so afraid you won't like me, so I never managed to do it. As they say, what's there to be afraid of? We broke up just like that. Maybe we were never compatible from the beginning, but I always think, how could I know if we hadn't worked things out? Actually, I'm so unwilling and angry. We both cared about each other, so how did it turn out like this? I'm unwilling, but I'm also so cowardly. I'm angry at myself for not communicating properly, angry at myself for constantly running away, angry at myself for not facing it even now.


But sometimes I seem to have let go, things are in the past and can't be changed, so I've started to pick myself up again and love myself more. I wonder if I've done anything right now? I thought I was slowly letting go, but I dreamt about you again today. In the dream, I could get close to you and talk to you face to face, but you didn't seem to like me that much. So I told you, "I like you just the way you are. The more you hate me, the more you'll remember me." Maybe subconsciously I don't want to become strangers with you. Even if I can't get your love, I want to get your hate so you can't forget me. Every time I think I've let go of you, something reminds me that I'm not. It's tough, but I'll keep going.
